Class Descriptions
Acro: Acro combines the technique of ballet with acrobatics. It is an athletic dance that often utilizes mats during instruction.
Ballet: Ballet is an artistic dance that uses precise steps and gestures. Dancers often use a barre during class. Ballet is the foundation for many other types of dance.
Contemporary: Contemporary dance combines characteristics of ballet, jazz, and lyrical dance. Contemporary is one of the most popular genres of dance today.
Hip Hop: Hip Hop is an energetic and fast-paced form of dance that is less about technique and more about personal expression.
Jazz: Jazz combines classical ballet and modern dance techniques and focuses on style and rhythm.
Lyrical: Lyrical combines classical ballet and jazz techniques into a flowing, expressive form of dance.
Musical Theatre: In Musical Theatre dance, dancers learn choreography that tells the story of a song from a musical. Aspects of ballet, jazz, hip hop, and tap may be used, though no prior knowledge of these techniques is required.
Pointe: Pointe is an extension of classical ballet in which the dancers wear specially made shoes and support their weight on their toes.
Predance: In Predance, dancers learn basic movement patterns and rhythms. Dancers often play creative musical games and work on taking and understanding instructions.
Tap: Dancers wear shoes with metal taps on the bottom and focus on rhythmical footwork and proper technique for producing sound.
Tumble Hop: An introduction to acro and tumbling for our youngest dancers. Each class will conclude with some Hip Hop!
