A Christmas Carol: a CENTER Players field trip production

The CENTER Players announces open auditions for an in house field trip show of A Christmas Carol, adapted by Lou Trapani and Barbara Rankin, inspired by the original Charles Dickens story.

PRODUCTION DETAILS

Seeking: 6-8 versatile singing actors to play multiple roles in a musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol. Cast must be able to assist with lifting and moving during load and strike of shows. Cast must submit to a pre-employment background check. Cast will receive a stipend for rehearsals as well as a stipend per performance.

Shows begin in November 2025. Most, if not all, will take place at The CENTER during the school day. Please see attached potential show schedule (COMING SOON).

Please read all instructions carefully and type or print legibly to complete. Bring your completed copy to the audition. We will have blank copies to fill out at auditions.

Prepare/Bring: An acting resume. Your personal calendar- please be prepared to list all conflicts. Please prepare “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and familiarize yourself with the sides in the Google folder. Please be prepared to do a check of vocal range. Auditioners should plan to be at the audition for approximately 30-45 minutes.

Digital submission: If you are unable to attend either audition date, you are welcome to submit an audition digitally. Digital submissions must be received by Tuesday August 26. Anyone invited to the callback must attend in person to be considered.

REHEARSALS

Approximately 15 rehearsals will take place during the day and on weekends. 1-3 rehearsals a week in September, October, and November. Cast members will be expected to work on memorization and preparation independently.

CASTING BREAKDOWN

Roles may be shuffled as needed.

ACTOR 1- Male identifying. Ideally casting 40+ but open to any age. Plays Scrooge. 

Sings “Good King Wenceslas,” “Joy to the World,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

ACTOR 2- Any gender identity, age 18+. Plays Marley, Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. 

Sings “Carol of the Bells,” “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence,” “Deck the Halls,” “The First Noel,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

ACTOR 3- Any gender identity, age 18+. Plays Bob Cratchit, Old Fezziwig, Ignorance, Mourner. 

Sings “Carol of the Bells,” “Deck the Halls,” “The First Noel,” “Ding Dong Merrily on High,” “Christmas Day is Coming,” “Silent Night,” “Auld Lang Syne,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Joy to the World,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

ACTOR 4- Female identifying, age 18+. Plays Lady Bountiful, Mrs. Cratchit, Mrs. Fezziwig, Fan, Young Alice, Older Alice. 

Sings “Carol of the Bells,” “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” “Deck the Halls,” “The First Noel,” “Away in a Manger,” “Christmas Day is Coming,” “Silent Night,” “What Child is This?,” “O Holy Night,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

ACTOR 5- Any gender identity, age 18+. Plays Fred, Innkeeper, Young Scrooge, Young Bob Cratchit, Mourner. 

Sings “Carol of the Bells,” “Deck the Halls,” “The First Noel,” “Christmas Day is Coming,” “Silent Night,” “Auld Lang Syne,” “Oh Come All Ye Faithful,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

ACTOR 6- Any gender identity to play ages 5-12. Plays Urchin, Boy Scrooge, Tiny Tim, Want, Mourner. 

Sings “Carol of the Bells,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” “Deck the Halls,” “The First Noel,” “Ding Dong Merrily on High,” “Christmas Day is Coming,” “Silent Night,” “Auld Lang Syne,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

UNDERSTUDY 1 (covers ACTOR 1, 3, and 5): Attends all rehearsals and will alternate with UNDERSTUDY 2 as sound and lighting tech during shows.

UNDERSTUDY 2 (covers ACTOR 2, 4, and 6): Attends all rehearsals and will alternate with UNDERSTUDY 1 as sound and lighting tech during shows.
