Guidelines for all Center Facilities

The Center hosts a variety of artists and is frequently used by three or four groups per day. To ensure that your time, as well as that of all other users with us is productive, a few simple courtesies are in order.

  • In order to meet everyone's needs without conflict, Center facilities may only be used as outlined and scheduled in your contract. Please do not use the studio, technical areas, green room, dressing room, shop, conference room, or storage areas until you have obtained permission to do so. Frequently, when you have been scheduled to use the stage, someone else has been scheduled to use the shop. If any members of your group incorrectly assume that the entire Center is at your disposal, conflicts will arise.
  • Please do not arrive at the Center before your scheduled time and please leave by the scheduled time. Overstaying your scheduled time may delay another user as well as incur additional charges for facility overtime and possibly employee time also. By the end of your scheduled time, the entire Sam Scripps Theater should be returned to the condition in which it was found, the house should be cleared, and all properties, sets, and costumes should be properly stored. This may mean concluding your rehearsal 30 minutes before your scheduled time so your group can finish this housekeeping on time. The same courtesies apply to the Andrew Weintraub Studio, or any other part of the Center you use.
  • Please do not bring food or drink into the Sam Scripps Theater, the Andrew Weintraub Studio, or the technical areas. You may eat and drink in the kitchen, green room, dressing room, and (during rehearsals only) lobby as long as you dispose of all trash and clean up any spills or messes. Our kitchen is shared by all groups and you may use the refrigerator, sink, and microwave as long as you are tidy. Your cast will be happy and your rehearsals will hum along smoothly if you arrange for our lobby concessionaires to be open for your rehearsals, freeing your group from snack preparation.
  • Please keep the green room, dressing room, and dressing room baths in order. The Center will clean the green room and bathrooms regularly. Please make sure to properly store and secure your props, costumes, set pieces, etc, to ensure that they will not be misplaced or accidentally discarded. We ask that, upon your strike, you give the dressing room one final cleaning, as the next users may be minutes away.
  • Please avoid the lobby. Do not rehearse in the lobby; do not leave properties, sets, or costumes in it; do not use the lobby bathrooms; and do not use the concession area. The lobby is a public space that gives patrons their first impression of the Center and your production. Your patrons and other groups will be filing through all day.
  • Please do not display fliers, posters, or photographs outside or inside The Center until you have cleared such displays with Artistic Director Lou Trapani.
  • Please do not use any of our technical equipment, shop, tools, supplies, curtains, scenery, lumber, or paint until you have cleared it with the Technical Director. Any rehearsals before your scheduled load-in do not include the use of technical equipment. Any unauthorized use could inadvertently wreak havoc on another group's production. Please be aware that we can only allow personnel that can demonstrate safe and proper use of our equipment to do so. We offer training, a roster of qualified personnel you can recruit from, and paid professionals. Long in advance of your load-in please insure that your crew members have the skill required by your production.
  • Please do not use any of our office equipment including phone lines, copier, fax, or computers without permission from the Administrative Director. As a special service to producers of long-running shows, we can set up a copier account for you and you can receive messages on our voicemail system. A computer in the outer office is provided for technical and artist use. Authorized users can prepare set and lighting designs using Vectorworks Spotlight.
  • Please do not make or accept personal calls on our outside phone lines. When the phone lines are tied up, all business activity including your publicity and ticket sales grinds to a halt. Of course, emergency incoming calls (cast members with a flat tire, etc) will always be accepted. When your group has loaded in, please ask for our emergency extension. Instruct all your personnel that for emergencies after office hours they should dial it to ring all the production phones. For all other uses, we have installed a pay phone outside the lobby entrance.
  • Please designate someone to check in immediately on entering and check out just before departure at our office. Any messages for you will be in a file by the office door.
  • Please encourage everyone involved in your production to purchase tickets as soon as possible during regular box office hours. The Center will treat all members of your cast and crew as if they were members of the general public; in other words, we do not show a preference, and once the show is sold out that is it. Complimentary tickets can only be authorized by your producer. Remember that complimentary tickets will lower your box office receipts.
  • Please park along the road on performance nights. Pull off the road onto the grass on the roadside facing the tennis courts. 100% of the main lot will be needed for your patrons. During rehearsals everyone is welcome to park in the main lot.
  • Smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the building. If you smoke, please do so outside the stage door and dispose of your butts in the strategically placed receptacles.
