Red Molly With Steve Kirkman (4:00PM - 4:00PM)

Red Molly

Red Molly with Steve Kirkman

Singer and guitarist Steve Kirkman opens for acoustic folk trio Red Molly who will be performing a crisp blend of harmonies on the heels of their newly-released album, “Love and Other Tragedies.” The special concert at The CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck is being hosted in association with WKZE 98.1 in Red Hook.

Red Molly includes Laurie MacAllister (vocals, guitar, banjo), Abbie Gardner (vocals, Dobro, guitar) and Carolann Solebello (vocals, guitar, bass, mandolin). The trio had a very organic, natural start at the 2004 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and are now touring nationally. They have been praised by Scott Alarik of The Boston Globe for their starmaking qualities, including the ardor of their music, their "tick-tight arrangements, crystalline vocals and caramel harmonies."

Kirkman, a Hudson Valley resident, describes his music as Alectro-Americana: part acoustic, part electric, part hot rod, part farm tractor. His musical influences range from early blues of the deep South to the rock-n-roll of Bruce Springsteen.

Tickets: $15. Reserve online at www.centerforperformingarts.org or call the box office at 845-876-3080.

Last Five Years (8:00PM - 8:00PM)

Last Five Years

Trinity Players will present the one-act musical, “The Last Five Years,” November 15-16 for one weekend only at The CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck.

“The Last Five Years” is a one act musical written by Jason Robert Brown.  It premiered in Chicago in 2001 and was then produced off-Broadway in March 2002, when Brown won Drama Desk Awards for the music and the lyrics.  Since then it has enjoyed numerous productions internationally.

The story explores a five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. The show uses a novel form of storytelling in which Cathy travels backwards in time (beginning the show at the end of the marriage), and Jamie travels forwards (starting with the couple's first date). The songs are presented as soliloquies, except for a wedding song in the middle, where the two characters share a duet.

A sophisticated show requiring bravura vocal performances from its leads, “The Last Five Years” will be directed by Anna Marie Martino and will star Maria Hickey and Jim Nurre. Paul Schubert will be the musical director for The CENTER production, with original musical direction by Joel Flowers.

The Saturday performance on November 15 will begin at 8 p.m., followed by a Sunday matinee, November 16, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults and $20 for seniors and children. For reservations, call The CENTER’s box office at 845-876-3080 or visit www.centerforperformingarts.org Box office hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.

Chapter Two (8:00PM - 8:00PM)

Chapter Two

The word ‘comedy’ and the name ‘Neil Simon’ are synonymous in the lexicon of American theatre.  Up In One Productions celebrates the work of this beloved and popular playwright with its presentation of Chapter Two running November 21 through November 30 at The CENTER for Performing Arts in Rhinebeck.  Simon has created a treasure-trove of other laugh-inducing gems such as The Odd Couple, Plaza Suite, The Prisoner of Second Avenue, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Biloxi Blues, and Laughter on the 47th Floor, uniquely New York, distinctly American.  Chapter Two is Simon’s most autobiographical work, reflecting the period in his life following the death of his first wife and through the romance and marriage to his second wife, Marsha Mason.  Set in 1970s Manhattan, the play opens with the return home of a writer, George Schneider, from a European trip intended to distract him from the grief of losing his wife. Prodded by his brother Leo, George encounters actress Jennie Malone, a recent divorcee who, badgered by her friend Faye to start dating again, is as reluctant as George to embark upon the next "chapter" in her life. But embark they do, and the experience highlights both the humorous and serious sides of romance, love, and building a life together. Originally directed by Herbert Ross, the Tony Award-winning Chapter Two opened to rave reviews on Broadway on December 4, 1977. It starred Judd Hirsch, Anita Gillete, Cliff Gorman, and Ann Wedgeworth. The play was adapted into a successful film in 1979 starring James Caan, Marsha Mason, Valerie Harper, and Joe Bologna.

The Up In One production is given life on stage by director Marcus D. Gregio (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Romeo and Juliet), and features Alan Lipper (The Odd Couple, A Chorus Line), Joe Felece (West Side Story, Romeo and Juliet), Lisa Lynds (Cabaret, Chicago), and Diana di Grandi (Richard III, Steel Magnolias). Set design is by Rafael Rivera and the lighting design is by Heather Brower.

Chapter Two (3:00PM - 3:00PM)
