2010-2011 FIELD TRIP PREVIEW
For our 2010-2011 season, we're thrilled to bring back favorite shows, and introduce some new productions as well. New shows include "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest," "Merchant of Venice," "Robin Hood," "The Prince and The Pauper," "Sugarplums and Nutcrackers," and two versions of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
Returning productions include "Fun with Energy," "Pioneers," "American Revolution," "Hansel & Gretel," and our own version of "A Christmas Carol," which changes a little every year!
Field trips require pre-registration and payment, unless supported by BOCES.

FALL 2010 FIELD TRIPS INCLUDE:ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NESTby CENTERstage Productions October 13, 14- 10:00 a.m. A charming rogue contrives to serve a short sentence in an airy mental institution rather than in a prison, and leads others out of introversion, and stages a revolt. Best for high school students. Tickets $8.00
FUN WITH ENERGY with Jeff BoyerOctober 15 and November 18, 10:00 & 11:30 a.m. Jeff Boyer shows the audience that energy is what makes our world work with an exciting energy-filled ride they’ll always remember. Kids learn about sound, light, solar power, electric and kinetic energies, with materials ranging from everyday objects like baseballs and breakfast cereal to radiometers and even a Van de Graaff generator! Ideal for grades K-8. Study guide available. Tickets $6.00
THE MERCHANT OF VENICEby Up in One Productions October 26, 27, 28 - 10:00 a.m. Shakespeare’s compelling classic weaves the threads of love, truth, morality, and justice into a rich tapestry set against the backdrop of Renaissance Venice.The play features several of the most powerful and memorable personalities in the Bard’s vast litany of characters. LAURA INGALLS WILDER: GROWING UP ON THE PRAIRIEby ArtsPower Sorry, full - wait list available October 29, 10:00a.m. Laura and her family travel across America in search of a place they can call home. AMERICAN REVOLUTION by Kit’s Interactive TheaterNovember 4 - 10:00 & 11:30 a.m. Philadelphia - 1776 - Abigail Datchery & Samuel Adams attend the first reading of the Declaration of Independence. Help re-create the powerful events, such as the Boston Tea Party that sparked the War for Independence. Interactive performance that allows students to be deftly incorporated into the plot! Best for grades 4 - Adult. Tickets $6.00.
THE PIONEERS by Kit’s Interactive TheaterNovember 5- 10:00 & 11:30 a.m. Independence, MO 1860’s - Blaze a trail with Pioneer Penny Pritchard! Relive the spirit of covered wagon travel with buffalo stampedes, deadly snake bites, and dance by the light of the moon. Interactive performance that allows students to be deftly incorporated into the plot! Grade levels: K-5. Tickets $6.00
HANSEL AND GRETEL by Tanglewood Marionettes (just added!) November 9 - 10:00 & 11:30 a.m. This Tanglewood Marionettes production is based on the classic fairytale by the Brothers Grimm, and features melodies from the Humperdinck opera. The colorful set is in the shape of a giant story book; as the pages turn, each new and exciting scene is revealed. As the tale unfolds, Hansel and Gretel must call upon their inner reserves and learn new methods to overcome the challenges they encounter while lost in the wood.Recommended Grade Levels: K-6. THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW by The Puppet PeopleNovember 17 - 10:00 am. A thrilling comic rendition of Washington Irving’s haunting tale. Focusing on themes of bullies, jealousy and superstition this show features hand crafted marionettes, two life sized puppets, special lighting and smoke effects, and both classical and traditional folk music. Grades K and up. Tickets $6.00
THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER by Hampstead Stage CompanyNovember 19 —10:00 a.m. Mark Twain’s The Prince and the Pauper shows how “the grass is always greener on the other side”. In this comedic tale, Prince Edward Tudor lives a life of luxury with servants to grant his every wish while Tom Canty spends his days begging on the streets of London. When the two boys accidentally meet, a simple switch of clothing sets them on a path they’d never dreamt possible. The prince, mistaken for Tom, is forced to live a pauper’s life, while Tom unwillingly takes on the life of a prince. Grades K-8. Tickets $6.00
SUGARPLUMS AND NUTCRACKERS by CENTERstage ProductionsDecember 9, - 10:00 a.m. A fairy tale ballet based on Tchaikovsky’s classic, The Nutcracker. The perfect dance treat for the season and a must for children of all ages. A CENTERstage Production directed and choreographed by Michele Ribble and featuring a company of local favorites. A CHRISTMAS CAROL by CENTERstage ProductionsDecember 1, 2, 15, 16 —10:00 a.m. The CENTER’s original musical adaptation of Dickens’ classic tale. Join Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, Ebenezer Scrooge and some wacky ghosts as they find out that Christmas isn’t a Humbug after all! Ideal for all ages. Tickets $8.00
2011 FIELD TRIPS INCLUDE:MAGUS by Carey HarrisonFebruary 3 and 4, 2011 - 10:00 a.m. MAGUS (pronounced MAY-gus, meaning magician), is a new play by Carey Harrison, son of legendary screen star Rex Harrison. Sir John Dee was Queen Elizabeth I's tutor and the most celebrated magician in British history. This new play combines Dee's magic with a tale of William Shakespeare as a feisty youth. In this Elizabethan romp, which also brings to life Miguel de Cervantes and Franz Kafka. Ideal for high school students.Tickets $8.00 A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM by Shakespeare Theatre of NJ
February 16, 2011 - 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's Shakespeare LIVE! company always offers a fresh, imaginative take on this perennial audience favorite. When starry-eyed young lovers and zany would-be actors cross paths with mischief-making fairies in a magical forest, the result is one of the world’s most uproarious comedies. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the ideal “first Shakespeare” for elementary grades, and a riotous roller-coaster ride for teens (and teachers). For grades 3 through high school. Tickets $8.00 A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM by CENTERstage ProductionsApril 5, 6, 12, 13 - 10:00 a.m. The CENTER's annual Shakespeare Festival returns! "A Midsummer Night's Dream" remains one of the Bard's most popular comedies and continues to delight audiences to this day. The play takes place, as the title suggests, on an evening in the middle of summer. The young lovers, Hermia and Lysander, decided to run away together. They are followed by Demetrius, who is also passionately in love with Hermia. Demetrius is followed by Hermia’s best friend, Helena, who is madly in love with him. What happens next is farcical fun, full of verbal and physical humor! For middle and high school students. Tickets $8.00 ROBIN HOOD by CENTERstage ProductionsApril 26 and 27 - 10:00 a.m. The CENTER presents an original adaptation of the classic tale of Robin Hood and his band of merry men. Students of all ages will delight in this new show. Tickets $8.00

- Any cancellations or changes to original reservation must be made at least 30 days prior to performance or schools may be billed for unused seats.
